The Fight To Decriminalize Sex Work
Earlier this week, Democratic lawmakers in New York made major moves toward becoming the first state to fully decriminalize sex work. The bill they presented -- the Stop Violence in the Sex Trades Act -- would ensure that adults over 18 can legally engage in the consensual selling or buying of sex. It arrives in the wake of the Trump administration creating two new laws that seek to target online sex work known as FOSTA/SESTA, which has made it illegal for sex workers to communicate online. Zach Stafford talks with Audacia Ray and Cecilia Gentili -- two members of Decrim NY, the advocacy group that helped draft the bill -- about fight on decriminalizing sex work in New York, and how the issue is playing out on a national level.
